Corny Jokes.
The word 'corny' is thought to have originated in 1920s USA and is used to describe something which is simple, unsophisticated or obvious. The rural, farming people of the USA's mid-west were reputed to grow and live mainly on corn, hence the name.
These jokes are very popular mostly because they are so bad. The idea is to get a groan rather than a laugh. Sometimes you hear people say that a joke is 'So bad it's getting good again'.
A man and his penguin were driving down the road when a cop stopped him. The cop asked the man:
"Don't you know it is against the law to ride with a penguin in the front of your car?"
The man replied:
"No, I didn't know that."
The cop asked the man where he was going and he said:
"To London".
The cop said:
"I will let you go this time if you promise to take the penguin to the zoo when you get to London."
So the man promised he would. Several days later the cop spotted the man with the penguin driving down the road and he the stopped the car again. The cop said:
"I thought I told you to take this penguin to the zoo when you got to London"
The Man replied:
"I did and we had so much fun that I'm taking him to the circus."
