Image result for irony examples          Joke for the Day. Irony.

I said to my wife 'I don't want to be patronizing... Oh, in case you don't know, patronizing means being talked down to'.

Explaining the concept of irony to English learners is not easy. A definition of irony is- A state of affairs or events which is deliberately contrary to what one expects.

The song Ironic by Alanis Morrisette contains very little irony and the situations she sings about are mostly coincidence. This in itself is ironic.

The above joke starts- 'I don't want to be patronizing' and is then patronizing. Like last week's surreal jokes you will get a better idea by looking at a few one-liners.

I bet I could quit gambling
What if there were no hypothetical situations?
It’s not my fault I don’t take responsibility for my actions
As I said before, I’ll only say this once.
Don't you hate rhetorical questions?
God, I want patience, and I WANT IT NOW!
Sorry, I forgot all about the Amnesia Conference!
The creation of random numbers is too important to be left to chance.
I can resist everything except temptation.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
Never believe generalisations.
Avoid alliterations always.
Just say NO to negativity
